Work Experience

Last Employer: Double Down Stables
Contact Person: Dan Sutherland- Great Canadian Casinos
Responsibilities: At this job I was required to: Feed morning grain to 28 horses and foals, turn the horses out to the fields, fill their hay and water buckets, clean out the stalls and replace the bedding, sweep the barn, bring the horses in, prepare and feed their dinner grains. I also assisted in the birth of many foals, learning about various complications of the births. I had to care for the pregnant mares, giving them the proper nutrition and prenatal supplements. As well, I learned the important care techniques for caring and raising the new born foals. I had to call trainers and breeders all over the world to set up viewing appointments. I handled the hours of three other employees and recorded the hours they worked.
Accomplishments: During the 2 years that I worked for this company, we produced 43 foals. Of these young horses, 29 are successfully racing on various race tracks. The others, who lacked speed as race horses, have great homes with people that love them.
Pet Specialist (11/01/2008 – 09/30/2009)
This job taught me many new skills working with people as well as with their animals. At Bosley's Pet Food Plus, I increased my knowledge of animal nutrition and wellness. I learnt how to provide customer service and use a till. I used math skills to provide proper change to customers. At night, I learnt how to close the store and count the till. I established new communication skills and polished old ones. Unfortunately, due to over staffing, many employees including myself were laid off.

Interests
Outside of the school walls, I am on the High School Competitive Gymnastics Team. I joined the team at the beginning of grade 8 and I am still on it. Since joining, I have been to four Provincial competitions. I started gymnastics when I was three and I love it. I am also on the Delta Gymnastics Gymnaestrada Team. This summer I will perform in Winnipeg on the BC Team. When I am not training or coaching, I love to judge competitions for younger gymnasts. Besides gymnastics, I love riding horses. When I was fourteen, I bought my very own horse. I have now owned him three years. I take care of my horse all on my own and I cover all his costs. It is a lot of work, but I enjoy it every day.
