Claims Assistant (04/13/2009 – Present)
In my current position as a Claims Assistant, my primary duty is to analyze, sort, and initiate the claims process by establishing control of incoming mail received by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Roanoke Regional Office. In order to perform these duties proficiently, you must have an understanding of the claims process and the benefits provided through the Veterans Administration.

Responsibilities: My responsibilities are to include bar coding the files updating the current location of the file on a weekly basis. Attaching mail or evidence from the veteran or doctor to the file to further the process of adjudication of the veterans claim for disability benefits. Request exams from the various Veterans Administration Medical Centers or subcontracted medical offices. Responsible for reporting time keeping into the system for accounting purposes so that employee is paid for leave or overtime. Copy all privacy acts that are under the jurisdiction of the D1BC Nehmer team. Assist other teams with workload helping to clear the backlog of disability claims.
Accomplishments: In the past two years I have received an outstanding on performance evaluations. Been accepted to the Achieving Career Excellence Program
Legal Adminstration Specialist (03/31/2008 – 04/10/2009)
Counseled veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries via telephone regarding the full array of benefits available through the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as non-VA benefits available through other organizations concerned with veterans.

Responsibilities: Answered questions for the Veterans Administration toll free number that may have entailed the status of a veterans claim or benefits available for a widowed spouse. Generated correspondence to the veteran as to verification of benefits received or the status of a claim. Sent appropriate forms to apply for benefits that the veteran maybe entitled to. Advised veterans the right to appeal decisions and explained the appeals process. Prepared and sent Inquiry and Routing System email to the station of jurisdiction regarding the adjudication of a veterans claim.
Accomplishments: While serving as a Legal Administration Specialists received Outstanding Performance evaluations. Assisted coaches with various questions from fellow peers. Exceeded production requirements on a daily basis.
