Interests

In September 2006 my community of Salmon River, NS, participated in a reality tv series developed by CBC television and sponsored by Kraft titled, Hockeyville.  The contest was based on community spirit, hockey and Canada.  It was an honour to be chosen to represent my community.  Part of the spotlight involved the cameras and journalists of the CBC touring the community with me.  In addition to that, I was given the opportunity to discuss with them life in Salmon River and share that with the audience across Canada.  I was fortunate to meet the Montreal Canadians hockey team and I received free hockey tickets to attend the NHL pre-season game hosted in our community arena as part of the winning prize.  Another highlight of being a part of the winning town for Hockeyville was the opportunity to participate in the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast with Ron MacLean and Don Cherry, "Hockey Night in Truro".  This was a huge confidence boost for me because not only was I going to be on tv in my community but, people all across Canada were watching.

Having played hockey myself for many years, I decided to volunteer my time coaching.  For the past two years I have spent approximately 7 hours per week, between September and April, in the rink and at the same time working fulltime.  As well as planning strategies with the team and offering my guidance I have taken on the responsiblity of skate sharpening for the entire team.

I have been a member of the RCMP Junior Program for a year now and I meet monthly with different officers and learn about different fields and help organize events.  I am also a member of the RCMP hockey team which supports the Adopt A Book Foundation.
