Responsibilities: 1. Maintain operational control of the facility in the absence of senior staff. 2. Maintain chronological written records of events that occur during the shift. 3. Maintain client sign-in/sign out log. 4. Control contraband in facility through general observation and room searches. 5. Insure facility cleanliness and monitor client work and extra duty assignments. 6. Observe client behavior and report abnormal behavior in a manner consistent with the situation. 7. Monitor client medications. 8. Obtain urine and breathe samples to monitor client substance use. 9. Transport IDOC clients. 10. Issue linen. 11. Make periodic tours of the facility and its grounds and monitor number of clients in facility and their behavior. 12. Monitor visitor activities. 13. Insure fire and other safety measures are carried out. 14. Insure client compliance with VOA policies and house rules. 15. Inventory and secure personal possessions of absconded residents. 16. Conduct lights out and reveilles at designated times and wake clients as requested. 17. Assist clients with short-term coping and problem solving. 18. Monitor operation of equipment and report malfunctions as appropriate. 19. Monitor entrance to facility and answer telephones. 20. Attend staff meeting and training as directed 21. Other duties as assigned.
Accomplishments: Promoted from Correctional Officer to Residential Counselor within 6 months of employment. Only full-time employee to work with all 3 contracts(BOP,IDOC, and VA) at facility.
