Responsibilities: As a transport RN, responsible for the care and transport of ill and critically ill infants from outlying area's in Alberta, NWT and as far north as Inuvik. Attendance at high risk deliveries at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Care of critically ill neonates at both the David Schiff NICU and the RAH NICU. Educate fellow staff members in Neonatal Resuscitation and unit policies and procedures. Educate parents about their infants condition and care.

Accomplishments: Certified in Neonatal Resuscitation, CARNA registration, Neonatal Certification by National Certification Corporation (NCC). Registered nurse certified in: IV Starts, IV med administration, Cytotoxic med administration, arterial line blood draws, veni-puncture for blood draws. Experienced in the care of the pre and post surgical neonate as well as care of premature neonates. Additional skills acquired as a Transport RN include: Endotracheal intubation of infants, Arterial stabs for blood withdrawal, Insertion of Umbilical Venous lines, Chest needle thorocentesis, X-ray interpretation.

Focus on care of the elderly as well as an elementary school placement. 2nd year placements focused on community and postpartum (Healthy beginnings, labor and delivery and postpartum placements) and hospital acute care (medicine placement) 3rd year focus on med/surg. and psyc. with placements on an acute care surgical unit and a psychiatric unit. 4th year focus in Pediatrics. Placement on unit 4C3 - Pediatric cardiology at the Stollery and final practicum at the RAH Neonatal Intensive Care unit.
