Interests
Debating and Public Speaking: As a debater, debating prefect, judge, and ultimately a coach, I have been thoroughly involved in both the active participant, and leadership roles of high school debating. International competitions saw me travel across North America, and abroad to the UK, Australia, and Germany for the world championships. As a coach, I founded a middle school debate programs at Laidlaw School in Winnipeg, and ran a week-long debate seminar at Wildwood high school in Los Angeles.
Travelling: I have been blessed to have travelled extensively around North and Central America, all of Western Europe, the UK, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Columbia, and Peru. While most trips have been pleasure or school oriented, I have volunteered with orphanages in Windhoek, Namibia, and in rural Dominican Republic. For the latter, I lived on-site with the kids for one week, and had raised 400kg of clothes and over $5000 in donations prior to leaving.
Entrepreneurialism: In 2004, together with my cousin Donald McKenzie, I launched an innovative dock bumper solution known as Bumper Buddy into the Kenora market. A significantly more durable product than existing bumpers on the market, yet priced at a fraction of the cost, the product has been enormously successful. Today it can be seen on numerous residential docks, at the Royal Lake of the Woods yacht club, and at the Kenora Recreation Centre docks. In 2008, the Northwest Business Centre ran an article on youth entrepreneurialism in Kenora, and headlined our product.
