Work Experience

Life Safety Bureau Director (11/15/2004 – Present)

I have worked in a step up role as Life Safety Bureau Director since 2004 and was recently promoted to Director. Prior to my step up role with Boone County Fire, I worked as a 911 dispatcher with Public Service Joint Communications. Before moving to Columbia I was a Battalion Chief in the Operations Division for Castle Rock Fire Rescue Department in Colorado. Prior to becoming a paid firefighter I was a volunteer firefighter in my home town in Colorado. While being a volunteer I worked for the City of Brush as a Public Works Supervisor which oversees all aspects of street/road construction and maintenance, parks maintenance, cemetery maintenance and burials and solid waste collection.

Responsibilities: The position of Life Safety Bureau Director is a responsible Management position that oversees the daily operations and function of the four areas of on-going responsibility and need. These include code enforcement, public education, public information and fire & explosive investigation.

Accomplishments: Revised and adopted ordinance to the 2006 International Code Sets in alignment with the Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Planning and Building Department. Revised and expanded our Survival Kids Program which teaches 4th grade students life skills. This program was written and developed by the Boone County Fire District and is being taught worldwide. We currently serve 13 schools and over 600 children each year. Rebuilt relationships with local media outlets and worked very close with them during recent events, both positive and negative.

Details: Completed high school and have attended some college. Most of my education is in fire service programs such as state and national certification programs in many different areas including leadership, management, life safety and operations.


My skills include writing, public speaking, organizational structure and multi-tasking. I work well under pressure and I am very able to make split second decisions when needed. I can anticipate issues which may arise and work through those prior to them becoming a problem. I am a loyal, compassionate hard worker who believes customer service is number one.

Computer Skills: I am proficient with windows based systems and reporting software.

Additional Information

I have attended many certificate programs as it relates to the fire service within all levels of responsibility. I have been in the fire service for 19 years and have served at every level of management within an organization with the exception of Fire Chief.

Honors: I have received numerous Life Saving Awards including the highest award given by Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department, the Timothy J. Tonge Life-Saving Award for saving a life under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions.

Publications: Being a published poet several years ago and now the Public Information Officer for the Boone County Fire Protection District, I have done thousands of media interviews including broadcast television, broadcast radio and newspaper. I have also issued hundreds of press releases related to our organization during emergencies, public education and community preparedness and also during very controversial issues.

As a father of four, sports are my main interest. I love coaching my daughter in softball and my boys in football and baseball. I enjoy playing sports like softball and golf and I enjoy working out when time allows. I also enjoy hunting and family time with my wife and kids. I enjoy home improvement projects and spending time with friends and family.
