I have spent the past 30 years in the roofing industry, both on the residential and commercial roofing side of the business. I have worked for roofing contractors and manufacturers, representing their roofing products. The last 10 plus years, I have spent in a senior management position.

Responsibilities: Was in charge of the technical division of a major roofing manufacturing company. Our division was in charge of limiting the liability of the ownership of IKO. Look after providing the following services to our customers development of new roofing products and roofing systems, preparation of training seminars, roof inspections, solving product problems, handling complaints, liaison between roofing industry and management, hands on training programs for applicators, preparation of specifications, code approvals and testing, representing the company at the provincial and national association (OIRCA and CRCA).

Accomplishments: Member of CRCA National Technical Committee for 10 years. Chair of the CRCA Associate Members Committee, which included a seat on the CRCA Board of Directors (for 4 years). Took IKO Industries Ltd., from the position of "sleeping giant" to one of the most technical advanced companies in Canada. Increase commercial roofing sales every year that I was there. Developed a very knowledgeable staff that provided IKO with one of the top technical companies in Canada. Obtained my Register Roofing Observer (RRO) designation under the Roof Consultant Institute. Have obtained my Certified Technical Representative (CTR) with the Construction Specification Canada.

Responsibilities: Preformed site inspections for residential complaints regarding shingles and home owners. Was in charge of investigating every shingle complaint in Ontario and providing the management with pictures, reports and samples to assist with the evaluation of the complaints. Possess a strong technical background in all phases of roofing, both in low slope and steep slope systems. Understands the claim process of product complaints including inspections, application concerns, report writing, picture documentation and letter writing. Strong presentation skills. Well known within the Canadian Roofing Industry with a good reputation for having technical knowledge.

Computer Skills: Understands the computer basics, word, excel, outlook, PowerPoint and email systems. Prepare reports with pictures inserted within the documentation.

Foreign Language Skills: No second languages.

Additional Information

I am an approved instructor for the RCI educational courses for the roofing portion of the RCI education program at Humber College. Have prepared a number of training seminars and power point presentations for the roofing industry, roof consultants, architects, associations, school boards, roofing contractors, and building owners.

Research Projects: Have worked on testing of fully adhered modified bitumen roofing membranes at the National Research Council. Helped to develop an adhesive that contains no VOC's for the roofing industry. This polyurethane base adhesive is performing far beyond expectations. Help to develop a highly reflective modified bitumen (SBS) membrane that meets the requirements of the LEED program.

Conferences or Courses: Have attended the past 10 CRCA annual conferences, both as a speaker and a delegate. Have chaired the roof demonstrations at the CRCA Rooftech Trade Show. Have attended the CSC annual conference. Have developed a Green Roofing presentation with a vegetative roof provider, we have presented this presentation in Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Interests

I enjoy sports, both playing and watching.  Currently play Oldtimers hardball in the Hamilton Oldtimers Baseball Organization.  Enjoy golfing and camping.
