Objective
Recently retired Telecommunications/Data tech looking for either part time or fulltime (depending on the type of job and circumstances) work in Williams Lake area. I have 36 years experience in all facits of the Telecom business from POTS to high speed fiber systems and Data systems. Also I have many years of experience with analog and digital radio systems as well as VHF & UHF links. I am experienced with the install and repair of customer premises data DSUs, Routers, and voice systems.
Work Experience
Telecommunications Tech (05/03/1973 – 09/30/2009)
36 years looking after telecommunication systems in Williams Lake area which included over 20 central offices over a very wide geographical area. Experience with every type of transmission equipment that has been used over the past many years. In later years I specialized in the installation and maintenance of "Special Services systems" which entailed install and repair of high speed business solutions involving fiber optic DSUs and IP routing equipment.

Responsibilities: In charge of maintenance and install of all types of telecommunications systems carrying long distance voice and data in a large geographical area.
Accomplishments: Over the years I became very good at troubleshooting all kinds of system and equipment problems and never met a problem that could not be solved. I was in charge of planning and executing many system and Central Office conversions that always went off without a hitch.

Skills
I am very skilled and have extensive training on various equipment and systems used in telecommunications field. Some of the more recent skills include: - Fiber cable splicing at customer locations. - Lineup and acceptance of many different types of high & low density WDM fiber optic transmission systems used for customer solutions as well as high bandwidth inter office links. - IP and TDM based digital radio systems to bring data and voice circuits to remote business locations. Also I am very mechanically inclined as I was a teletype repairperson (a long time ago) and also owned and operated a business where I repaired stereos / VCR / Tape decks etc..
Computer Skills: I have many years of experience repairing computer hardware and installing software on computers and laptops which was a large part of my job at TELUS as well as a hobby at home.

Additional Information
Have a level 2 Canadian Government security clearance which allows me to work in Military installations.
Conferences or Courses: Have many equipment specific courses for Digital Radio (Harris, Alcatel) as well as many courses on fiber optic multiplexers from Nortel, Newbridge, Lucent, Taderan to name a few...
Interests
I have done a lot of volunteer work over the years as a director on the board of the Williams Lake Stampede Association (approx 15 years)
Volunteered as person in charge of communications equipment at the 2002 BC Winter Games.
Was a volunteer at Canada Hockey Place during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Like boating and also spend lots of time on ATV exploring around my rural home.
Enjoy downhill and cross country skiing as well as ice fishing in winter.
