Responsibilities: Supervise a design group to design and draft the plans for new bridges, repairs of bridges, culverts, misc. drainage structures. Review designs done by the engineers in the group for conformance to MnDOT and FHWA standards, for completeness of design, and make sure the design is in a form for the drafters to draw accurately. Review the plan sheets for accuracy of representing the design, to make sure there are enough details to build the project, and to produce error-free plans. Meet all deadlines for letting the projects.
Accomplishments: All letting deadlines were met.
Bridge Standards Engineer (03/12/1997 – 05/04/1999)
Work with Bridge Standard Details Manual and Standard Plan Sheets Manual to maintain and update existing standards and to create new standards as needed. Work with the Bridge Design Manual and Bridge Construction Manual to keep them up-to-date.

Responsibilities: Review existing standard details and plan sheets for possible errors and needed updates. Create new standard details and plan sheets as needed. Supervise a group to do any design necessary for the standards and draft the standards. Coordinate with other MnDOT offices (including District offices) and with county highway departments regarding the use of the standards.
Accomplishments: All standards were maintained (improved if necessary) and new standards were created. MnDOT had been planning to convert all of its manuals to metric, and that task was almost completed when MnDOT decided to abandon the project.
Bridge Designer (06/17/1974 – 03/11/1997)
Design all parts of bridges, including piers, abutments, and beams. Types of beams include prestressed concrete, steel, and curved steel. Design retaining walls, noise walls, and miscellaneous drainage structures. Review designs and plans done by consultants.

Responsibilities: Design all parts of the bridges assigned completely and accurately, and in conformance to MnDOT and FHWA standards. Design miscellaneous other structures assigned.
Accomplishments: All designs were completed and were on time to meet letting schedules.
